Privacy & activity logging
We use private activity records to understand how people use the timeline and which searches need better results.
What the activity log records
When the timeline loads or you submit a search, the log records your IP address, the date and time, search phrase or selected date, search options, browser information, referring website hostname when supplied, and the request’s outcome and result count. The referring page’s full URL and query are not retained.
An independent random reference groups requests within your browser session. It does not identify your name or give access to your session. An IP address may be shared by several people. Background research, automatic progress checks and individual keystrokes are not recorded as searches.
Access and retention
Activity records are available only to the site administrator. They are not included in public search results.
Activity logging is currently enabled. Search and visitor activity history is kept indefinitely, with no automatic expiry or scheduled deletion. Pausing logging stops new records and preserves existing history.
Other site storage
The site uses a session cookie for request security and administrator sign-in. Saved timeline items and draft submissions are stored in your browser. Branding requests you submit are stored separately from this activity log. Hosting access and security logs are also separate from the application activity log.
